Empowering Patients: Essential Info on Hernia Surgery

I shared short videos prepared by the European Hernia Society to generally inform patients with hernias.

Hernias are more than just a bulge in the abdominal wall and their presence can affect your daily life. The European Hernia Society (EHS) has created a series of short videos to improve patient care around the diagnosis and treatment of abdominal wall hernias and to enhance your safety and quality of life before, during, and after surgery.

You might be suffering from an abdominal wall hernia yourself, or someone from your family or a friend might be experiencing such an issue, often leaving you with many questions: Is it really a hernia? Should I see a doctor? Do I need surgery? Can any surgeon repair my hernia? Are there any risks? How should I prepare myself before surgery? How soon will I return to daily life after surgery?

You might have found answers to these questions online. However, be cautious of online sources as they may not always be accurate and misinformation can be harmful. In collaboration with BD, EHS has compiled summaries of important questions related to hernias based on evidence from medical literature and up-to-date information in one place.

Five videos of less than a minute each are presented in English or German with subtitle options available in Czech, Danish, French, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish. Just choose the language you are most comfortable with and get the information you need about #YourHernia. We hope this helps you make the right decision regarding hernia surgery and enables you to ask the right questions to your surgeon.

Below are the titles of these five short videos. Click to watch the video on YouTube.
